Nestled between the Santa Lucia Highlands and the Salinas Valley, Arroyo Seco is one of California’s earliest recognized AVAs.
Mesa Del Sol sits at the western edge of the AVA, where lean, rocky soils drive our vines’ roots deep into the ground. The hot arid days of the uplands and cool marine night air of the Pacific provide a perfect setting for nature to weave her magic.
Thanks to our sustainable farming practices, cover cropping, and composting, this rugged terroir produces wines that are characterized by bold fruit and nuanced minerality.
The Wines
Our award-winning wines are an expression of this land. They evoke the scent of sagebrush on the coastal breeze and the ghostly fog that rolls in over the oak-dotted hills each night.
Over the years, Mesa Del Sol has enjoyed many accolades for the exceptional quality of our wines, such as “Best in Show’ at the 2005 California State Fair Wine Competition.
Most recently, Wine Enthusiast awarded our 2022 Syrah and 2023 Grenache 94 points and 90 points, our first vintage since owning the vineyards.

Tyler Russell
Tyler Russell is an award-winning winemaker recognized for his innovative approach to Rhône varietals and his ability to craft wines of remarkable depth and character. With decades of experience at top California wineries and the launch of his own highly rated labels, Tyler has mastered the art of allowing the fruit to speak for itself.
At Mesa Del Sol, Tyler applies his hands-off yet intuitive style to highlight the unique terroir of the Arroyo Seco AVA. He lets the vines and soil shape each vintage, producing wines that balance bold fruit with nuanced minerality.
